Desperate Housewives Season Five Review

A Look At The Developments On ABC's Hit Show

May 18, 2009 Frank Leal

Desperate Housewives moved ahead five years this season and many new storylines developed on Wisteria Lane.

Season Five of Desperate Housewives was one of the most intriguing seasons of the show and was filled with action, drama, and suspense. Here is a look at the developments involving the main characters and a look ahead to Season 6.

Lynette and Tom

Lynette and Tom faced some difficult challenges in Season Five. Their son Porter was involved with an older woman and would later be accused of setting a night club fire. The pizzeria business wasn't doing too well so they decided to shut it down. Lynette eventually goes back to work for Carlos. Meanwhile Tom has sort of a mid-life crisis as he decides what he wants to do with his life. He feels that Lynette does not have time for him and is tempted to seek the attention of other women. In the Season Finale, Tom decides to go back to college to learn Chinese, something which will help his marketing career. Lynette, meanwhile, announces that she is once again pregnant, with twins no less. With one parent in college and one pregnant, it will be interesting to see how they can manage financially and the strain that puts in their marriage. Tom figures to be tempted by all those attractive college girls, while Lynette figures to have a bout with depression over her recent pregnancy.

Gabrielle and Carlos

Early in Season 5, Gabrielle struggles with the reality of being poor and having a husband who is blind. Their fortunes would change however, as Carlos regains his sight and eventually goes back to work and once again becomes a successful businessman. Meanwhile Gabby once again becomes as arrogant, selfish, greedy, and conceited as ever. She may have met her match, though. In the Season Finale, they take in Carlos' niece. There is something very suspicious about that girl and there figures to be much tension between her and Gabby in the next season.

Bree and Orson

Bree becomes a successful businesswoman in this season. She builds her own company and writes cookbooks. Orson, meanwhile, feels emasculated by his wife. He takes out his frustrations in the form of kleptomania. This eventually becomes too much for Bree to take and she hires Susan's ex Karl as her divorce attorney. They set up a fake robbery to protect Bree's assets but it backfires when Orson finds out about the storage unit and threatens blackmail. Bree eventually falls for Karl and it looks like a relationship is beginning between the two. As they say, opposites attract. Meanwhile Orson refuses to accept the fact that it is over between him and Bree. Expect Karl to think of something to resolve the situation and get Orson out of the picture.

Katherine and Mike

Mike develops a relationship with Susan's friend Katherine. This makes things a little uncomfortable between all three. Katherine is truly in love with Mike and is eager for them to get married. Meanwhile Mike is hesitant to get married, possibly because he still harbors feeling for Susan. He finally gives in though and agrees to marry Katherine but just as they were ready to board the plane for Las Vegas, circumstances prevented that from happening. More on that later. However, two months later, Mike marries someone who may or may not have been Katherine.

Susan and Jackson

Susan begins a relationship with her painter Jackson early in the season. However, she is hesitant to allow the relationship to get too serious. That leads to problems and they eventually break up. Susan feels lonely without a man and struggles with the realization that Mike is now seeing Katherine. It is clear that she still has feelings for Mike. Meanwhile, Jackson comes back into Susan's life late in the season, and asks her to marry him for his green card. Unfortunately he winds up getting picked up by immigration on their wedding day. Meanwhile, Susan's top priority is taking care of her son M.J. and she even takes a job as an assistant teacher to get him into the best school. Susan and M.J. life would be in great danger in the Season Finale but more on that later.

Edie and Dave

Edie moves back to Wisteria Lane with a new husband, the mysterious Dave Williams. Dave was the most compelling character in season 5 and was the centerpiece of the most intriguing storyline of the season. Viewers eventually learn that Dave is the man whose wife and daughter died in that car accident. He is eager for revenge and vows to make those responsible pay. He goes to great lengths to make sure his master plan comes to fruition. He has Mrs. McCluskey committed, he kills his doctor, he sets a night club fire and blames Porter for it, and even calls immigration on Jackson. Eventually Edie finds out the truth and leaves the house after a fight with him. She has an accident and dies. Her character mill be missed. Meanwhile, Dave, who thinks Mike was at the wheel for that fatal accident, plots to kill Mike's love interest, Katherine on a camping trip. His attempt was unsuccessful. When he finds out Susan was at the wheel, he plots to kill her son, M.J. on a fishing trip. Mike learns of his plans through a taped confession and he informs Susan and once again Dave's attempt is unsuccessful and he winds up in the mental hospital.

Cliffhanger

The cliffhanger heading into season 6 is who did Mike marry. Katherine? Susan? Someone else? Katherine is the most likely scenario as she will have little to do on the show if she is not involved with Mike. They will probably introduce a new man as Susan's love interest. Susan and Mike should get back together eventually but it should happen at a later time.

I am sooooo woried. The more i think about it the more i see something crashing in season 6. Whatever happens please oh please dont let Lynette and Tom split up they are one of the most wonderful couples on DH and without them i probly wouldint watch it. It will be fun to see who mike marries and if Lynette and Tom can survie having yet again anthor set of twins

Of course, Mike is going to take Susan back.
What a surprise!
It's so predictable....this show is getting awful (more?). Carlos and Gaby switched their plots with Lynette. Now they're having a baby and the others have the crazy bitch in their lives...DIDN'T MARC CHERRY PROVE THAT AS A MISTAKE? The crazy bitch in season 2 was awful! maybe if they make tom's daughter get in a catfight with the new girl, that might be fun.
MAN! But why don't they give Susan a life? the only plot for her character is to have a man by her side.

The only good thing is that you can't deny the chemistry between marcia cross and richard burgi. They look good together. I hope that's going to be fun to watch.

And this is that time of the year in which they recicle some man from Sex and the city to get him in the show.
