Fans Get Their Chance to Vote for the Winners of a Film Awards Show

Movie watchers can help decide who is the Hollywood female star, Hollywood male star and Hollywood movie of the year. It is billed as the kickoff for the awards season.

The Hollywood Movie Awards is one of those recently made up awards programs created to appeal to America's insatiable appetite for red carpets and shiny statues. It is associated with the Hollywood Film Festival and is positioned early in the awards show season when fans are hungry for celebrity gatherings.

Film Awards Show

The Hollywood Film Festival has been around since 1996. It was "created to bridge the gap between Hollywood and the global creative community, while at the same time honoring established Hollywood professionals." It has gathered some legitimacy in that time with a notable array of A-list stars attending their event. This year Clint Eastwood is being honored as the Hollywood Director of the Year. He is expect to show up to receive the award.

Hollywood Movie Awards

The Hollywood Movie Awards offers an interactive twist to film fans. They can go to Yahoo! Movies and vote for the winners of three categories. They are Hollywood Movie of the Year, Hollywood Female Star of the Year and Hollywood Male Star of the Year. In 2007, there were 20 million visits to the website and 125,000 votes were cast.

Hollywood Movie of the Year

Nominees for 2008 Hollywood Movie of the Year include Dr Seuss' Horton Hears a Who, Hancock, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Iron Man, Kung Fu Panda, Sex and the City, The Dark Night, Tropic Thunder, Wall-E and Wanted.

Hollywood Female Star

Actresses nominated for 2008 Hollywood Female Star of the Year include Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett, Charlize Theron, Kate Winslet, Kate Beckinsale, Keira Knightly, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson.

Hollywood Male Star

Actors up for 2008 Hollywood Male Star of the Year are Ben Stiller, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Harrison Ford, Hugh Jackman, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Downey Jr., Sean Penn, Tom Cruise and Will Smith.

Movie Awards Season

The winners of other categories have already been determined. They include Sally Hawkins as Hollywood Breakthrough Actress of the Year, James Franco as Hollywood Breakthrough Actor of the Year and "Tropic Thunder" by Ben Stiller as the Hollywood Comedy of the Year. The fans still get the final say on the big three categories.

Just the Beginning of the Awards Frenzy

Event organizers boast that "in the last 5 years, a total of 54 Oscar nominations and 16 Oscars were given to films we showcased and to the nominees and honorees of the Hollywood Awards." That is not much of an achievement considering there are only a handful of films and actors considered for Oscars anyway. The Hollywood Movie Awards has the distinction of picking their winners first. The Hollywood Film Festival begins October 22, 2008. It caps off with the Hollywood Movie Awards the evening of October 27, 2008 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.
