New Original Series for A&E Network a Crime Drama About FBI Agent

Patrick Swayze, who has been battling pancreatic cancer, is back at work filming The Beast for A&E Network in Chicago. The new origninal series will air in January 2009.

A&E Cable Television Network has announced the launch of their second scripted drama series, The Beast, in January 2009. The series stars Patrick Swayze and Travis Fimmel. Swayze portrays an unorthodox but effective FBI veteran who trains a new partner, portrayed by Fimmel. The new series is a labor of love for Swayze, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January. Swayze has been in Chicago filming the crime series.

The Beast is a FBI Drama Starring Patrick Swayze

Swayze's character has a hard-edged and psychologically clever style of agenting. Meanwhile the agent is being pursued by a secret Internal Affairs team. The mischievous veteran hazes his new partner as they work undercover, brilliantly manipulating situations, constantly testing his new partner and pushing him to delve deeper into his "roles." As he realizes he can no longer maintain normal relationships and still do his job, the rookie is confronted with yet another challenge: An FBI team trying to enlist him as a double-agent in the bureau's investigation of his partner.

A&E Network Excited About Original Series

Executive Vice President & General Manager of A&E Network, Bob Bitello released a press statement, expressing that the network was delighted to be working with Swayze, "We're very excited to begin series production on The Beast and even more thrilled to have Patrick on board reprising the role he played so powerfully in the pilot opposite Travis, who is certainly an emerging talent in his own right. In addition to exceptional lead characters, The Beast is unique in its combination of emotional storytelling, compelling plot lines and action elements."

Patrick Swayze Talks About His Character

Patrick Swayze,stated in a press release "I have searched for quite a long time to find a character that is this multi-layered, unpredictable and downright entertaining, as well as a project this current and cutting edged, There are constant twists and turns, because we never know what this 'Charles Barker' is going to do next! Not only is the show driven by plot, but as important, it's character driven. We have an incredibly talented team of writers and staff, Chicago is an amazing, untapped city."

Patrick Swayze, 56, is a popular film actor, perhaps best known for his sexy role in Dirty Dancing. Swayze has an impress list of film list of film credits, some of which include Ghost, North and South and To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar.

The Beast Executive Producers

The Beast is executive produced by Allan Loeb and Steven Pearl for Scarlet Fire Films (New Amsterdam) and Cory Concoff (Beltway) for Fuel Filmworks. John Romano (American Dreams, Third Watch) will serve as the showrunner and executive producer. The pilot script was written by William Rotko (Breach, Beltway) and Vincent Angell (Stand By Love) who will also serve as co-executive producers. Michael Dinner (The Wonder Years, Grey’s Anatomy) directed the pilot. The Beast is being produced by Sony Pictures Television for A&E Network.

The Beast, starring Patrick Swayze, is scheduled to air on A&E Network, premiering in January, 2009.
