On the same day he turns 50 years old, Robbins will receive the 2,370th star on Hollywood Boulevard.
Actor, director, writer, and producer of films and theater, Tim Robbins will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California, on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. On hand to participate in the honor are his long-time partner Susan Sarandon, actor Jack Black (who appeared in Bob Roberts and Cradle Will Rock), and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Leron Gubler. The Films of Tim RobbinsAlso on October 10, Robbins’s newest film City of Ember opens in U.S. and UK theaters, with theatrical release dates around the world following shortly afterward. In this sci-fi adventure about a dying world, Robbins plays Loris Harrow, an inventor harboring an important secret from his son and from the community in which he lives. The film is based on the novel of the same name written by Jeanne Duprau. Robbins has acted in 60 different films beginning in 1979, including Mystic River, Catch a Fire, The Shawshank Redemption, The Hudsucker Proxy, War of the Worlds, Jacob’s Ladder, and Bull Durham. His directing, producing, and writing credits include Bob Roberts, Dead Man Walking, Cradle Will Walk, and the upcoming television drama Possible Side Effects. Other Awards and AccomplishmentsIn a long and diverse career, Robbins has won numerous awards for his acting including an Oscar®, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actor for Mystic River, Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival and the Golden Globe for Best Actor for The Player. He also was nominated by the Golden Globes for Best Actor for his role in Bob Roberts and by the Screen Actors Guild for Best Actor for The Shawshank Redemption (scheduled for release on Blu-Ray Hi-Def on December 2, 2008). As a playwright he has been produced in London, Paris, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. His most recent play, “Embedded,” played to sold-out audiences for over four months at the Public Theater in New York, after which it played at the Riverside Studios in London and on a National Tour in the United States. Work With the Actors GangAnother favorite project for the actor, producer, writer, and director is his work as Artistic Director for the Actors Gang, a theater company formed in 1982 with more than 80 productions and 100 awards. Recently he directed the Actors Gang in an adaptation of George Orwell's novel 1984. This production has toured more than 40 states and four continents in the past two years. Robbins also sponsors educational programs with the Actors Gang that provide arts education to elementary, middle and high school students in the Los Angeles, California, area. The Actors Gang worked for the past three years providing theatrical workshops to current inmates in the Los Angeles prison system.
