This is a list of the top ten TV comedies of all time. Numbers 6-10 will be covered first.

A great TV comedy will make you have a few laughs and forget your troubles for a half hour. They are a great escape from reality. So what are the top ten TV comedies of all time? It is time to begin the countdown.

10. Martin

Martin was one of the funniest shows of the 90s. It stars Martin Lawrence as a Detroit talk-show host who deals with his relationship with his wife Gina, friends Tommy and Cole, and enemy Pam. Seeing Martin and Pam hurl insults at each other is a lot of fun. Tommy is very smooth and wise, while Cole is very funny as the not-too-bright friend. There is great chemistry on this show, especially between Martin and Gina. They have their problems and fun misadventures but deep down they really love each other and that is the strength of the show. Martin also dresses up to play several different characters on the show and he is hilarious in all of those roles. Martin is a great physical comedian. His talent translated to the big screen as he has gone on to become a successful movie star.

9. King of Queens

King of Queens was a very funny show. It had a long nine year run. It stars Kevin James as Doug, an IPS worker who deals with his relationship with his wife Carrie and friends Deacon and Spence, his cousin Danny and his father-in-law Arthur. Doug is lovable as the chubby guy who landed the hot wife. Much like Martin and Gina above, Doug and Carrie have their issues but deep down they really love each other. They have great chemistry. Arthur lives with them and he is often an annoyance to Doug and Carrie which leads to great comedy. Kevin James, like Martin, is a great physical comedian and his talent has also translated to the big screen.

8. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was a great 90s comedy. It stars Will Smith as a troubled youth from Philadelphia who gets sent by his mother to live with his rich relatives in Bel-Air. Will deals with his relationship with his uncle and aunt, cousins, and of course, women. Uncle Phil is often the butt of Will's very funny "fat jokes" but he can be a very stern diciplinarian to Will. Aunt Viv is a caring motherly figure to Will. Cousin Ashley takes a liking to Will and he has a big influence on her. Hilary is funny as the intellectually challenged and shallow cousin. The strength of the show, though, is Will's relationship with his cousin Carlton. They have great chemistry. Will's "short jokes" are very funny. Whether they are hurling insults at each other or cooking up some outrageous scheme, they really work well together. Once again, in what seems to be a recurring theme among great comedies, deep down Will and Carlton really care for each other. Will had impeccable comedic timing. Will's talent has also translated to the big screen as he has gone on to become one of the biggest movie stars of this generation.

7. Seinfeld

Seinfeld follows the lives of four New-Yorkers as they deal with life in the big city. It stars Jerry Seinfeld as a stand-up comedian and his friends George and Kramer and ex-girlfriend Elaine. Seinfeld is often referred to as a "show about nothing" because the plots were usually fairly simple and they focused on everyday life situations. The eccentric personalities of the main characters lead to great comedy. Jerry often questions every little tidbit about life, George is the woe is me, down on his luck buddy, Kramer was the all-around goofball, and Elaine was the flashy woman who was not afraid to speak her mind. Mailman Newman was also funny in his role as Jerry's nemesis. Once again, the characters all had great chemistry.

6. The Flintsones

The Flintsones was one of the great cartoons of all time. It stars Fred Flintsone as a gravel pit dino-operator who deals with his relationship with his wife Wilma and neighbors Barney and Betty Rubble. Fred is a loud-mouth who likes to be the boss and in control. Although, in several episodes, it is clear that Wilma really wears the pants in the family. Barney is Fred's partner in crime as the two have various misadventures in the town of Bedrock. It is set in the Stone Age and seeing the animals double as household appliances is a cute touch. Fred and Barney were both very funny and some of the wacky predicaments they find themselves in lead to great comedy.
